KRAGUJEVAČKO ČITALIŠTE

At the end of October 1995, a pilot number of "Kragujevačko čitalište" was published, modestly decorated and edited, looking more like a newsletter than a serious library journal. The intention of this conception was that the journal should supplement the chronic lack of periodicals in our city, especially those about literature. Many young writers published their first poems, prose and translations in the "Kragujevačko čitalište".

"Kragujevačko čitalište" has been published twice a year since no. 1 and has changed over the time (editors and editorial boards, editorial concept, form, appearance, scope, design), turning to the profession and at the same time, it remained open to all topics from the cultural history of thecity. The first editor-in-chief was Mila Stefanovic from no. 1 to no. 3 (1995-1996), followed by Mirko Demic (1997-2003) and again Mila Stefanovic (April 2004-June 2008). Since no. 26 (December 2008) Marija Rakic Saranac has been editor-in-chief.

With no. 20 "Kragujevačko čitalište" has returned to its original idea - to be the library journal aiming to inform general public about Public Library activities as well as activities from other libraries in the country, region and worldwide; the journal also follows publishing in Kragujevac, likewise the cultural history of the city. Our collaborators are librarians, historians, literary experts and artists from Kragujevac, Serbia and Former Yugoslavia region.

During the time our library journal has become well equipped (its volume counting between 45 and 55 pp., and 30cm in size) and illustrated closer to the ordinary reader. Avoiding entrance to strictly professional circles "Kragujevačko čitalište" is a journal where a writing creativity of both our employees and our colleagues throughout Serbia and the region can be expressed, and as such, it has become a distinctive mark of our library.
